Circularity aspects and sustainability transitions as factors in real estate valuation. University of Naples Federico II.
Marina Montemuro Varela is an architect and environmental consultant from Brazil, working in sustainable construction since 2014. She holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and has developed a multidisciplinary background that integrates architecture, life cycle assessment (LCA), circular economy, and digital tools such as BIM. Her career has included participation in multiple international competitions and summer schools, where she cultivated her interest in collaboration and innovation. While working as a sustainability consultant in Spain, Marina contributed to European research projects focused on circular construction and the benchmarking of LCA for buildings. Her experience includes environmental certification processes (LEED, VERDE and BREEAM), environmental simulations, and on-site sustainability management. She combines technical expertise with a strong social and ecological commitment, seeking practical solutions that align performance with impact. As part of the QuiVal project, Marina is investigating how circularity aspects and sustainability transitions can influence real estate valuation. Her PhD focuses on understanding the multidimensional value of buildings—economic, environmental, and societal—through the lens of quantum concepts. She is particularly interested in how higher levels of circularity, such as refuse and regeneration, can be integrated into valuation frameworks and contribute to decision-making in the urban context. Her research includes secondments at PingProperties in the Netherlands and SDU University in Denmark, where she will explore both practical and theoretical perspectives on value and circular transitions. These experiences will strengthen the link between research and application, bridging the academic and professional worlds.
