Professor Life Cycle Engineering
With an offset in environmental chemistry Morten has over the last 3 decades been researching and applying research within quantitative environmental sustainability assessment. Morten has spent a considerable part of his career on method development supporting the ongoing development of the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. Morten’s main contribution to the LCA methodology has been within definition of the research area “inventory modelling” (i.e. model based quantification of exchanges between the technosphere and ecosphere at various scales), inclusion of temporal aspects in LCA and thereby defining dynamic LCA and thus facilitating inclusion of the temporal aspects in quantitative sustainability assessment. On the application side Morten has been focusing on sustainability assessment within agriculture/food production, civil engineering and sustainable resource consumption in both industrialized and emerging economies. Morten’s research has led to collaboration with internationally recognized universities and research institutions such as NTNU (NO), MIT (US), TU Graz (AT), TU Munich (DE), Sokoine (TZ), Chalmers (SE), University of Verona (IT), INRA (FR), RIVM (NL), TNO (NL), EPFL (CH), IIT Mumbai (IN), (Sokoine University of Agriculture (TZ), Stellenbosch University (ZA) etc.
Morten is involved in a number of other projects including the Horizon Europe projects AGRILOOP and WalNUT.
