Description

The impact of digitalisation to the real estate market dynamics

Research project 5b (DC 10)

evaluates ‘The impact of digitalisation on the real estate market dynamics’..
As with data infrastructure in the buildings, the platforms through which real estate is traded and rented inform the real estate market. For example, blockchain is hoped to be the new basis upon which supply and demand for housing solutions will be organised. Known examples are platforms such as AirBnB, which introduced the sharing phenomenon in trading housing solutions. This proves the potential of innovative digital tools in influencing trading dynamics. Hence, we ask (1) what is the role of digital technologies in the dynamics of the real estate market and particularly the role of blockchain technology through cryptographically secured transactions? (2) How do increased frequency and changes in trade methods influence what is traded and how are supply and demand matched? Through blockchain or similar technology development, this project aims to promote transparency, efficiency, and accountability in real estate transactions by reducing transactions costs arising in particular from intermediaries and fraud.
